A partnership with Ink Lounge to teach Youth on Record musicians to screen print band t-shirts to sell as merchandise.
The workshop is free, including the shirts, as part of his Good Ink Mission to support local musicians.
Overview: this workshop is approximately 2 hours where members from your band get to screen print shirts with a 1-color design you provide. Each band member will print 1 shirt plus the band to receive an additional 15 shirts to sell as merch. During the workshop we'll chat about the screen printing industry and I'll do my best to answer all the questions you have. All in all, screen printing is a pretty cool way to spend a few hours where you get to walk away with some sweet shirts you created yourself to wear, sell, and promote your band.
Workshop to include:
- support in creating art that is suitable to screen print and tips on selling
- insight on efficient ways to screen print at home and/or future studio availability
- knowledge about working with commercial screen printers and understanding their fees

Art file is required to be uploaded 2 weeks before workshop date so we can address any print issues and order shirts.
Art needs to be 1-color and you will use the same color of ink you select for all the shirts. Ink Lounge will guide based on shirt color, examples below.
Shirts are also required to be the same color: color options click here
After submitting file Ink Lounge will confirm and address any print issues.
Your art will be output as a B&W film positive during the workshop. The purpose of the film positive is to block the light during the exposure process leaving unexposed emulsion that is washed out, creating the stencil and allowing that specific color of ink to pass through the screen mesh onto the paper or fabric. This is why the image must be 100% solid black.
Size: around 10" width x 12" height
File Dimensions: your image should be created at 100% size printing.
File DPI: Photoshop files are required to be set at 300dpi.
General Line Thickness: lines should be a minimum of 1pt in thickness. In Photoshop, at 300dpi, 1pt = around 5 pixels.
Set File to B&W: confirm entire image is 100% black, with no greytones.
Do Not Invert Your Image: whatever is black will be the ink color and will be used to expose the stencil for printing. Please do not reverse, invert, mirror, etc. the image. The black image will be what you print, although you can pick any color to print with. Submit files as B&W PNG or PDF.
If you are planning on using a photograph, please review all the info on the File Prep for Halftone page for detailed instructions.
Please review Ink Lounge Image Rights Policy to make sure your design adheres to the studio image usage policy.
Questions? Feel free to call or email and ask for help setting up your file as it can get a bit technical.
Your design is required to be 1 color but you will choose both shirt & ink color to make them unique. Examples below are from the website Official Band Shirts that has a bunch of classic examples with many 1-color designs that could give you a bit of inspiration as you find your own voice and style.
